Our School Director

Norma Brockman

Norma Brockman has been at the Red Balloon since 1995. After graduating with a BS in Elementary Education with a Minor in Special Education she began her teaching career in 1976 at a Montessori School in New Rochelle teaching 3’s and 4’s. Over the next 4 years she completed her masters in Early Childhood Education. After 5 years in New Rochelle she moved to a new teaching job in a Montessori school in Riverdale as lead teacher in the 4/5 class. In 1988 she took a break from teaching to learn about business working as an office manager in a private business. After several years, and missing children she took up a new challenge, Educational Director in a Head Start in Washington Heights. In 1995 she found a home at the Red Balloon and hopes to stay there until she retires.

The Children’s Chef

He’s been cooking at The Red balloon for twelve years now, sautéing, roasting, and baking for the kids. Prior to landing here he worked in restaurants and hotels domestically in New York (primarily), Vermont, and California, as well as a lengthy stint of artisan bread baking in Boise. Abroad he’s worked as a chef in Portugal, Morocco, Israel, Mongolia, and Vietnam.

Every Day:
We serve hot, fresh healthy meals daily to all our children. A balanced healthy “nut free” diet that delights our children. Meals to keep young minds healthy, alert and energized.
